The county-wide initiative highlights the contribution of women in building trades

On Thursday, March 10, students from every middle school in Dorchester County  had the opportunity to learn about women in construction as part of the national 24th Annual Women in Construction Week, which runs March 6 through the 12. The county-wide initiative highlights how women are uniquely contributing to the building trades and the many opportunities available for women in the traditionally male-dominated field.

Local members of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) along with representatives from the Dorchester County Career and Technology Center (DCCTC) held events at every middle school in Dorchester County on Thursday, March 10, from 10:00 am until 11:30 am.

Each school will participate in a Zoom presentation with a special panel of women in the building trades. After the presentation, students will have the opportunity to ask questions and talk with local members of NAWICC and DCCTC. The county-wide initiative will also include a contest for students to tackle a building project.

The goal of Women in Construction (WIC) Week is to raise awareness and celebrate the contributions of women in the construction industry. This year’s theme is “Envision Equity”.

The special events Wednesday are a collaboration between the Dorchester County Career and Technology Center, National Association of Women in Construction, and Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce.

We are excited to invite you to complete a survey that will reveal which tools employers most desire when recruiting and retaining talent. South Carolina is developing a new statewide education and workforce portal—a centralized platform to help employers connect with talent, training resources, and workforce development partners. Your input is critical in shaping the features of this portal to best meet the needs of businesses like yours. This survey will help us identify the most valuable features for employers and how the portal can complement or enhance your existing tools. Your feedback will directly influence the development and prioritization of key features. The survey is open and will close by EOB on Monday, November 10, 2025 . It should take approximately five (5) minutes to complete. SURVEY CAN BE FOUND HERE: Employer/Industry Association Survey Once you’ve completed the survey, we encourage you to share the link with others who may also be interested in providing feedback.
