Summerville hosts South Carolina Chamber of Commerce's annual Grassroots Tour

In September, the Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce hosted a stop on the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce's annual Grassroots Tour.

Their visit was lead by Director of Government Affairs and Media Relations Manager Katie Titus. She conducted live polling of attendees to gather information in real-time from members. The feedback will be used to guide the state Chamber's initiatives in 2022.

The annual Grassroots Tour is key to setting the business community's agenda for the next legislative year and relies on the voices of a broad, diverse business group that is representative of the whole state.

During the session, Titus also explained some of the 2021 victories. These included championing the passage of  COVID-19 liability legislation; expanding rural broadband; and improving accountability for severely underperforming schools in the state.

Looking toward 2022, the state Chamber expected to, in part, finish passing the Hate Crimes bill and champion comprehensive tax reform along with legal liability reform.

Attendees had the opportunity to share their thoughts on the status of the SC economy, tax reform, and the legalization of marijuana in the state, among other topics.

Our Power Hours serve as an opportunity to keep Chamber members and the public informed on all that is trending or important in the community. We feature a different topic and expert speakers at each event.

We are excited to invite you to complete a survey that will reveal which tools employers most desire when recruiting and retaining talent. South Carolina is developing a new statewide education and workforce portal—a centralized platform to help employers connect with talent, training resources, and workforce development partners. Your input is critical in shaping the features of this portal to best meet the needs of businesses like yours. This survey will help us identify the most valuable features for employers and how the portal can complement or enhance your existing tools. Your feedback will directly influence the development and prioritization of key features. The survey is open and will close by EOB on Monday, November 10, 2025 . It should take approximately five (5) minutes to complete. SURVEY CAN BE FOUND HERE: Employer/Industry Association Survey Once you’ve completed the survey, we encourage you to share the link with others who may also be interested in providing feedback.
