Summerville Businesses, Let's Shine Together: New Glass Recycling Program & Public Glass Drop Sites Introduction

Member Submission • March 31, 2025

Focused solely on glass recycling, ensuring that glass is properly processed and doesn't end up in landfills.

Summerville, SC – March 20, 2025 – As fellow members of the Summerville Chamber of Commerce, we understand the importance of a vibrant and sustainable community. That's why we're thrilled to announce our glass recycling program designed specifically for Summerville businesses and neighborhoods, inspired by the success of a 34-year-old, locally owned and operated recycling company.

We know you’re busy running your establishments, and we want to make it easy for you to contribute to a greener Summerville. Whether you're a restaurant, cafe, office, or neighborhood, this program offers a convenient and efficient way to recycle your glass waste.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Glass Only Recycling: This program focuses solely on glass recycling, ensuring that it is properly processed and doesn't end up in landfills.
  • Convenient Drop-Off Sites: We are working to establish accessible drop-off locations, similar to the current sites in Isle of Palms, to make recycling easy for your neighborhood. These are available for sponsorships.
  • Weekly Collections: We plan to offer weekly collections to the area.
  • Community Impact: By participating, you're directly contributing to reducing landfill waste and preserving our beautiful Summerville environment, addressing the issue of glass being landfilled due to current recycling limitations in Berkeley and Dorchester counties.
  • Supporting Local: This program is designed to support our local businesses and build a stronger, more sustainable community together, with a model that has proven successful in a neighboring community.
  • Cost Effective: The program is designed to be affordable for local businesses. Waste costs are compared to the cost of the program to ensure that the cost is fair and considered a win/win for all!

"Let's work together to make Summerville a shining example of sustainability!"
