Residents, business leaders, educators, nonprofit organizations, and stakeholders are encouraged to stay engaged as the implementation process moves forward.

Community leaders and stakeholders were gathered on Wednesday, May 20, for the official kickoff of ENVISION 2047, a long-term community vision plan designed to drive the future growth and development of Summerville and Dorchester County over the next two decades. The event marked the beginning of the implementation phase of the initiative.

ENVISION 2047 reflects the priorities and aspirations of the people who call Summerville and Dorchester County home.
The plan centers on seven priorities, including housing options, vibrant gateways, thoughtful planning, quality economic growth, entrepreneurial culture, and top-tier education.

During the event, speakers explained that ENVISION is more than a strategic document; it is a community-driven roadmap designed to help the community grow while also maintaining the qualities that make all of Dorchester County unique.

The initiative comes in at a pivotal time, as the area has experienced significant growth over the past few years. The plan aims to help community leaders address emerging opportunities and challenges while also maintaining a strong quality of life for residents.

Residents, business leaders, educators, nonprofit organizations, and stakeholders are encouraged to stay engaged as the implementation process moves forward. A new ENVISION 2047 website will allow community members to track progress, learn more about the plan, and experience future engagement opportunities.

As Summerville and Dorchester County look toward the future, ENVISION 2047 represents a collective commitment to visualizing an adaptable community for generations.

Why ENVISION 2047?

This is a collaborative focus to “envision” what our community will be like in 2047. That date is significant because of the county and town both celebrating major milestones in 2047.

In 2047, the Town of Summerville will celebrate 200 years since its incorporation in 1847, and established in 1897, Dorchester County wTheill celebrate 150 years!

Envision 2047 ensures we arrive at these milestones as a stronger, more connected, and a more vibrant community.

ENVISION 2047 is sure to be successful with the collaborative work being implemented by these partnering organizations:

  • Berkeley/Charleston/Dorchester Council of Governments
