General Assembly allocated funds to establish a state-of-the-art facility

(Dorchester County, SC) - The Governor of South Carolina has officially approved the allocation of $1.5 million in funding for the construction of the highly anticipated Dorchester Heritage Center. The decision to allocate funding marks a significant milestone in preserving and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Dorchester County.

The funding will go towards the establishment of a state-of-the-art facility that will serve as the new home for the Dorchester Heritage Center in Ridgeville.  The DHC will feature interactive exhibits, engaging displays, and immersive experiences, allowing visitors to explore the captivating stories, achievements, and struggles of our ancestors.  The location will also include 81 acres of nature fields, woods, open spaces, and wetlands for the best and highest use of public benefit.

This is another sign of the Governor's unwavering support for the DHC. In 2020, the Governor presented the DHC with the Preservation Service Award.

The DHC would like to thank the General Assembly, especially Mr. Joe Jefferson, Mr. Chris Murphy, and Ms. Sandy Senn for their endorsement.

“As the next generation of citizens move into a very bright future for Dorchester County, it is fitting that we always remember the people and the communities that made it possible,”  said Senator Sean Bennett. “ I look forward to the Dorchester Heritage Center being a place where we can all go to kindle a profound sense of community pride and identity.”

This funding paves the way for the realization of the long-awaited Dorchester Heritage Center project. By investing in the preservation of our cultural legacy, we are empowering future generations with a deep appreciation for our shared history and a greater understanding of the diverse tapestry that makes Dorchester County and South Carolina truly unique.

Further details regarding the project's timeline and milestones will be shared with the public in the coming months.
