Knight’s Redi-Mix Acquires Lowcountry Concrete

Mia Grimm, Communications Coordinator, Knights Companies • August 6, 2021

BEAUFORT, South Carolina – Knight’s Redi-Mix announced the acquisition of Lowcountry Concrete, a family-owned concrete supplier in Beaufort and Jasper County, on Friday, July 30, 2021. Through the acquisition, KRM is gaining two dry-batch concrete plants in the region.

“Connecting our existing Charleston locations to our new locations in Savannah, Lowcountry Concrete is perfectly situated to help us continue growing our footprint and better serve our customers throughout the Southeast,” Pete Knight, CEO, says.

Starting in 1993, Larry Herndon built Lowcountry Concrete from one portable plant and two mixer trucks into what is today. As Herndon began contemplating selling the family business, going to a company who cared about its team became a major contributing factor.

“Knight’s is a lot bigger than us, but Pete still knows all the employees and they know him,” Hank Herndon, former VP of Operations at Lowcountry Concrete, says. “During our company tour, it reminded me of how I know all of our guys on a first name basis and proved Knight’s was a good fit for us.”

As a larger company, KRM will be able to support its new acquisition with its abundant resources and expand on the customer relationships Lowcountry Concrete cultivated over the years.

“The Herndon Family and Lowcountry Concrete’s employees have built a reputation for providing high-quality concrete and service,” Knight says. “Now, we’re looking forward to upholding that great reputation under Knight’s Redi-Mix.”
