“Persistence and Humility: Jesus on Prayer in Luke’s Gospel”

We are pleased to announce the establishment of the inaugural Bishop Sanco K. Rembert Memorial Lecture at Cummins Memorial Theological Seminary, and we are greatly honored to welcome as our first lecturer the internationally known New Testament scholar and poet Dr. Bonnie B. Thurston.


Dr. Thurston earned her PhD in English with Religious Studies from the University of Virginia. She did Post-Doctoral Studies at Harvard Divinity School, Eberhard Karls University at Tuebingen, and the Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem. Dr. Thurston is a much sought after speaker, has lectured worldwide, and published more than thirty books and numerous scholarly articles. Her teaching academic positions have included the University of Virginia, Bethany College, Wheeling Jesuit University, and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.


Her lecture, “Persistence and Humility: Jesus on Prayer in Luke’s Gospel” is set for 7 pm Thursday March 23, 2023, in the historic sanctuary of St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Summerville, South Carolina.


The late Bishop Sanco K. Rembert was a prominent figure and trailblazer in the life of Cummins Seminary and the Reformed Episcopal Diocese of the Southeast.
