Through its Community Support Awards Program, the shop takes the net proceeds generated from everyday donated goods and awards them as direct cash grants to other local nonprofits across Summerville.

A Stand-up Comedy Fundraiser

Second Chance Thrift Shop is proving that community support can be both powerful and hilarious. On Saturday, October 10, 2026, the long-standing volunteer organization will partner with production company Cause You Need A Laugh to present "Gently Used Jokes," a live stand-up comedy fundraiser aimed at helping the shop find a new, larger home.

Since opening in 1988, Second Chance Thrift Shop has operated with a straightforward mission: to support those most in need in the Summerville community. Unlike traditional thrift stores, Second Chance functions as a local grantmaker. Through its Community Support Awards Program, the shop takes the net proceeds generated from everyday donated goods and awards them as direct cash grants to other local nonprofits across Summerville. To date, the organization has awarded more than $1 million to local charities serving nearby families, veterans, seniors, and children. Every item donated, every purchase made, and every hour volunteered goes directly toward creating real, positive change right here at home.

Now, after nearly a decade at their current location, Second Chance has outgrown the space!
