Charleston, SC (June 2, 2026) – HCA Healthcare has expanded access to care for patients in the Carolinas by acquiring 17 urgent care clinics, including locations in Charleston, Columbia, Myrtle Beach and Spartanburg in South Carolina, and Wilmington in North Carolina. The 17 new urgent care locations were purchased from Urgent Care Group.

"This investment helps us improve more lives in more ways by expanding access to convenient, high-quality healthcare services in the communities we serve,” said Dr. John Lazenby, Chief Medical Officer for HCA Healthcare’s South Atlantic Division. “Urgent care clinics provide timely care for unexpected, non-emergency medical needs.”

As part of the acquisition, South Carolina clinics are now operating as HCA CareNow, becoming the first HCA CareNow urgent care clinics in the state. This reflects HCA Healthcare’s broader effort to unite more sites of care in South Carolina under the HCA Healthcare brand while making it easier for patients to recognize and access care across a connected network of services. The North Carolina clinics are continuing to operate under the trusted Medac name used by Urgent Care Group.

HCA Healthcare has invested more than $800 million across South Carolina over the last

five years, supporting healthcare infrastructure, technology and expanded access to care.

This acquisition further strengthens HCA Healthcare’s presence across South Carolina, complementing a network that includes four acute care hospitals, a behavioral health hospital, 40+ physician practice locations, eight freestanding ERs, 21 urgent care clinics and more than 75 care sites statewide. In the Myrtle Beach region, the clinics help connect patients to Grand Strand Health’s comprehensive network of care, including primary care, specialty care, emergency services and hospital-based care.

“We are incredibly proud of the care our teams have delivered and the strong relationships they have built in the communities we serve,” said Matt Kossman, CEO of Urgent Care Group. “We are excited to see them continue to grow and thrive as part of HCA Healthcare’s connected network of care.”
