Dorchester School District Two Board of Trustees Names Dr. Shane Robbins as Next Superintendent

The Dorchester School District Two Board of Trustees announced they have chosen Dr. William “Shane” Robbins as the next DDTwo Superintendent, following the upcoming retirement of Superintendent Joe Pye.

he Dorchester School District Two Board of Trustees announced they have chosen Dr. William “Shane” Robbins as the next DDTwo Superintendent, following the upcoming retirement of Superintendent Joe Pye.

 

The Board of Trustees voted to select Dr. Robbins during the public Board meeting on Monday, April 4. 

 

“After a very thorough process that included 19 candidates, our Board is pleased to have selected Dr. William “Shane” Robbins as our new Superintendent of DDTwo,” said Board Chair Gail Hughes. “We look forward to working with him in the future to achieve academic success for our students.”

 

The Board of Trustees followed a thorough process over three months during the national search for the next Superintendent, including:

 

  • Considering community feedback collected through two meetings and three surveys
  • Interviewing 9 candidates before announcing three finalists
  • Hosting a community meet-and-greet reception for each finalist
  • Asking finalists to deliver 10-minute introductory speeches and their plans for their first 45 days as DDTwo Superintendent
  • Arranging for each finalist to visit a DDTwo elementary school, middle school, high school, and the district office to engage with students and staff
  • Meeting with DDTwo’s Teachers of the Year to hear their feedback

 

Dr. Robbins has served as the Superintendent for the Kershaw County School District since 2018. Prior to this, he served as the Superintendent for Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation in Fortville, Indiana for three years, and the Superintendent for Northwestern Consolidated School District in Fairland, Indiana for three years. He also served as Superintendent for Monroe Central Schools in Farmland, Indiana for four years. Dr. Robbins previously served as a principal, assistant principal, athletic trainer and classroom teacher. He received his Doctorate in Educational Leadership, his Education Specialist degree, Master of Arts in Education in K-12 Administration, and his Master of Education in Secondary Education from Ball State University. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Allied Health/Athletic Training from Franklin College. He currently serves as a Colonel in the United States Army Reserve where he is assigned to the Office of the Surgeon General overseeing the National Disaster Medical System program.

 

Dr. Robbins and his family will live within DDTwo’s boundaries.

 

“I am both honored and very humbled by the opportunity,” said Dr. Robbins. “It’s always about service and the opportunity to serve children, staff and the community of Dorchester County.”

 

Mr. Pye is retiring effective June 30, 2022, following his distinguished 52-year career in public education. He has worked in DDTwo for 49 years and served as Superintendent for 23 years.

 

“I wish the incoming Superintendent the very best in continuing the tradition, quality, and vision we have established in Dorchester Two to benefit the students, employees, and families of our community,” said Mr. Pye.
