Dorchester County Partners with SC Thrive to Offer Free Tax-Filing

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (January 30, 2020) – Dorchester County is proud to partner with SC Thrive to offer residents who make less than $65,000 annually or married couples who make less than $95,000 combined and file jointly, free tax-filing assistance.

Residents who meet the above criteria can receive tax-filing assistance between the hours of 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM on Monday, February 3 and Monday, February 10 at the Dorchester County – Clemson Extension Office located at 201 Johnston St. in St. George (office fronts May St.).

To properly file, residents wishing to take advantage of this opportunity should bring the following applicable items/information with them to one of the above sessions: 
  • Personal Information: Social Security Number(s), Birth Date(s), Bank Account and routing numbers (for direct deposit) for the taxpayer(s) and dependents.
  • Federal Return Forms: Previous year’s tax return (Federal Form 1040)
  • Income Documents: Earned Income (W-2, 1099-MISC), Retirement Income (1099-R, SSA-1099, RRB-1099, CSA- or CF-1099-R), Investment Income (1099-INT, 1099-DIV), Miscellaneous Income (1099-G, W-2G, Alimony payments, 1099-C, 1099-SSA)
  • Health Coverage Documents: Marketplace Coverage (1095-A), Employer Coverage (1095-B, 1095-C)
  • Expense Records: Child & Dependent Care, Employment & Business, Contributions to Health Savings Accounts, Medical & Dental Expenses, Mortgage Credit Certificates, Education expenses (1098-T and Form 1098-E), Charitable Contributions, Disaster and Theft Losses, Miscellaneous (alimony payments, gambling losses, penalties for early withdrawals) 
Residents who are unable to attend one of the above sessions can file online via the Benefit Bank of South Carolina at no cost. To file and/or for more information visit www.SCThrive.org.
