Trident United Way Hosts Update on Financial Hardship in South Carolina

An estimated 42% of households in South Carolina were living in poverty in 2023.

According to the latest data, an estimated 42% of households in South Carolina were living below the ALICE Threshold in 2023. This includes families living in poverty as well as those identified as ALICE—Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed—who earn above the federal poverty level but still struggle to afford basic necessities in their communities.

Households below this threshold face difficult and often impossible decisions: paying for groceries or medication, rent or car repairs, childcare or utilities. These financial trade-offs are a daily reality for thousands of South Carolinians working hard to get by.

Trident United Way invites the community to join a virtual presentation of the 2025 Update on Financial Hardship on May 22 at 9:30 am via Zoom. This important session will share new insights into financial instability, highlight the resilience of families facing economic challenges, and discuss opportunities to build a stronger, more equitable future.
