These funds will support local nonprofits addressing critical needs including food security, family well-being and mental health.

Charleston, S.C. – Oct. 23, 2025 – HCA Healthcare recently announced a new chapter for its hospitals and care sites in the Lowcountry. Our hospitals and freestanding ERs will now operate under the HCA Healthcare banner—strengthening their commitment to advancing health, wellness and philanthropy in the Lowcountry.

As part of this rebranding, HCA Healthcare and the HCA Healthcare Foundation are investing $220,000 in community organizations to improve more lives in more ways. These funds will support local nonprofits addressing critical needs including food security, family well-being and mental health:

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) – $35,000 to expand access to group therapy and mental health resources.

Bundles of Joy Baby Essentials  – $40,000 to provide essential baby supplies, including diapers, to local families in need.

Lowcountry Food Bank – $70,000 to deliver 35,000 meals to seniors facing food insecurity.

In His Name – $25,000 to increase access to fresh produce in Colleton County.

An Additional $50,000 from HCA Healthcare Foundation - additional local charities to be announced next month.

“By uniting our hospitals under the HCA Healthcare name, we’re honoring decades of service in the Lowcountry. We look forward to future decades of strong community partnerships and care,” said Hugh Tappan, President and CEO of HCA Healthcare’s South Atlantic Division. “These investments ensure we are caring for our communities like family, both inside and outside our hospitals.”

The impact of these contributions will be felt across the Charleston market. The $40,000 investment in Bundles of Joy Baby Essentials will provide more than 3,000 families with free diapers for a month. “HCA Healthcare’s contribution comes at a critical time for families in need,” said Anna Javaux, Founder & Executive Director. “At Bundles of Joy, we serve nearly 50 families each week and distribute more than 10,000 diapers each month across Charleston, Colleton and Dorchester counties. HCA Healthcare’s support ensures together, we can expand resources—from diapers and essentials to education on safe sleep, car seat safety and CPR—so more families feel supported and more children grow up healthy and strong.”

Recognizing the importance of mental health, HCA Healthcare is also contributing $35,000 to NAMI Charleston Area to expand access to group therapy sessions.  “Mental health support is more important than ever, and HCA Healthcare’s investment will allow us to provide free group therapy sessions to individuals and families in our community,”

said Lori Smith, Executive Director and Community Outreach Coordinator for NAMI Charleston Area. “HCA Healthcare’s generous support enables NAMI Charleston to expand free mental health education, support groups and advocacy across our region—ensuring more individuals and families have access to the resources they need. Together, we can bridge clinical care with community support, so no one has to face mental health challenges alone.”

To address food insecurity among seniors, HCA Healthcare is providing $70,000 to the Lowcountry Food Bank to provide 35,000 meals to those that need them. “The generous contribution from HCA Healthcare will allow us to provide fresh produce alongside monthly CSFP boxes for seniors across our community,” said Nick Osborne, President & CEO of the Lowcountry Food Bank. “This support ensures older adults have consistent access to nutritious foods that can positively impact their health. Our partnership with HCA Healthcare allows us to offer a reliable source of fresh produce to seniors who may otherwise go without, advancing our mission to provide equitable, dignified and consistent access to food.”

HCA Healthcare’s $25,000 contribution to In His Name will bring fresh produce directly to families in the Walterboro area. “Colleton County is facing real challenges in food access, and HCA Healthcare’s support allows us to bring fresh produce directly to the people who need it most,” said Amanda Herndon, Executive Director, In His Name-Colleton. “HCA Healthcare’s support allows In His Name-Colleton to expand access to fresh, healthy produce for families in Colleton County who are facing hunger. Nutritious food is essential to physical, mental and spiritual well-being, and this partnership helps us provide more than a meal—it provides dignity, hope and long-term stability for our neighbors.”

By supporting mission driven community partners, HCA Healthcare is working to ensure access to health and wellness for all. Through this investment and these partnerships – HCA Healthcare is building on

its longstanding legacy of service, philanthropy and volunteering—reflecting its mission to care for patients, families and communities across the Lowcountry – inside our hospitals and out.
