Dorchester County Economic Development Welcomes Gordon Rooney as New Existing Industry & Workforce Project Manager

Rooney brings more than a decade of experience in local government and public affairs.

SUMMERVILLE, S.C.– Dorchester County Economic Development is pleased to announce the addition of Gordon Rooney as its new Existing Industry & Workforce Project Manager. In this role, Rooney will lead relationship-building efforts with existing industries and coordinate initiatives that strengthen the county’s talent pipeline through partnerships with businesses, educators, and workforce agencies.

 

Rooney brings more than a decade of experience in local government and public affairs, having served in leadership roles with the City of Charleston Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, the South Carolina Commission on National & Community Service, and as a consultant advising state and local governments across the country. His background includes managing business retention programs, guiding community investment strategies, and facilitating public-private partnerships that drive sustainable growth.

 

“We are excited to welcome Gordon to our team,” said John Truluck, Director of Economic Development. “His experience in local government, community engagement, and building strategic partnerships will be a tremendous asset as we work to better serve our existing industries and address evolving business needs.”

 

Rooney says he is looking forward to contributing to Dorchester County’s growing economy. “This is an incredible opportunity to work alongside a talented team and with our local industries to strengthen the foundation for future growth,” Rooney said. “I’m eager to learn from our business leaders, understand their challenges, and collaborate on solutions that support long-term success.”

 

Rooney holds a Master of Business Operational Excellence from The Ohio State University and a Master of Public Affairs from the University of Michigan. He's a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and has also served in leadership and advisory roles with civic and professional organizations at the local, state, and national level.
