An Exciting Milestone: Unveiling Our Community Vision Plan

Rebecca Collett • September 2, 2025

Forty leaders from across Dorchester County united to shape and guide this plan.

During two public briefings in August, we had the privilege of sharing the first draft of the Community Vision Plan—a framework that has been in the making for the past five months.

A Collaborative Effort

The Community Vision is the product of a true partnership, spearheaded by:

  • The Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce

  • The Chamber’s Foundation

  • Dorchester County

  • The Town of Summerville

Most importantly, it reflects the voices of the people who live and work here.

Built on Community Input

A steering committee of 40 public, private, and nonprofit leaders from across Dorchester County came together to organize feedback and guide the creation of this plan.

We relied heavily on extensive community engagement, including:

  • Interviews and focus groups conducted by Broad Ripple Strategies with key stakeholder groups

  • An online survey open to all who live and/or work in Dorchester County or Summerville

That survey generated more than 3,200 responses—a tremendous level of participation for a community our size. Your input has been invaluable in shaping this vision.

Guiding Principles for the Future

From this collaborative process, we have developed seven guiding principles that will serve as the foundation of the Community Vision Plan. These principles will guide our priorities, shape our focus, and help us build a stronger, more connected future for our region.

This is just the beginning of a journey we are taking together. Thank you to everyone who shared their voices, ideas, and aspirations. With your continued engagement, we will ensure this vision becomes a reality for Dorchester County and Summerville.
