The ARK of SC is adding to its development team

The ARK of SC is adding to its development team and is pleased to welcome back Michel’le Cathey as the new Associate Director.

Cathey previously worked with The ARK from 2016-2019 prior to her move to Winston Salem, North Carolina.

“I’m incredibly happy and honored to be back in the area and a part of the team. The ARK is an amazing organization doing great work in our community”, said Cathey.

Michel’le received her Bachelors in Business Administration from the College of Charleston and is a 2018 graduate of the Summerville Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Dorchester program.

Cathey brings to the team her passion for the Alzheimer’s community. As the Associate Director, she will be working closely with the development team focusing on The ARK’s strategic response to organizational and sector challenges and play a critical role as counselor, advisor and strategic thought-partner.

“We are very fortunate to have Michel'le return to The ARK. She has broadened her knowledge even further by working in the nonprofit sector in North Carolina. We are delighted to have her rejoin the staff to continue to build and provide services for the Alzheimer's community we serve”, said Peg Lahmeyer, executive director of The ARK.

For 26 years, The ARK has been a local nonprofit organization assisting families throughout five counties (Dorchester, Berkeley, Charleston, Orangeburg and Colleton County) in the Lowcountry. The ARK helps families cope with daily challenges of Alzheimer’s Disease or related dementia through respite care, family support programs, caregiver consultations and educational classes.

The ARK is funded primarily by grants, donations and fundraising events.

Respite programs are offered in Summerville (Monday-Thursday) and in Harleyville (Wednesday) to give family caregivers a much-needed break from the stress of around-the-clock caregiving.

They also support groups, lunch & learn educational workshops, memory screenings, resource referrals, caregiver workshops, and First Responder/Law Enforcement training.
