On April 29, 2025, the Greater Summerville Chamber of Commerce hosted a dynamic Soft Skills Workshop for high school students across Dorchester County.

With the theme “The Power of You – Communication, Leadership & Growth,” this hands-on event was designed to equip students with the essential soft skills they need to succeed in their future careers and beyond.

Held at Trident Technical College’s Dorchester Campus, the workshop welcomed 60 students from all four county high schools for an engaging afternoon of learning and connection.

Students rotated through four impactful breakout sessions led by local professionals:

  • Interviewing Skills – Michelle McDonald
  • Workplace Etiquette – Latrese Smith
  • Critical Thinking & Marketing – Michelle Fowler
  • Leadership & Teamwork – Marc Cotone

The event’s keynote address was delivered by Mr. Timothy Langford, Success Coach at Trident Tech and founder of Up to Speed Consulting, who inspired students with insights on adaptability and effective decision-making.

The Chamber is grateful for the support of its partners:

  • Dorchester County Economic Development – Lunch Sponsor
  • Trident Technical College – Host
  •

Workshops like this are part of the Chamber’s broader commitment to fostering career readiness and leadership in the next generation. By focusing on communication, professionalism, and critical thinking, the Chamber continues to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world success.
