New Location to Offer More Student Resources, Programs in Summerville

SUMMERVILLE – Saint Leo University will begin classes Monday, March 9, at its newest location in the master-planned Nexton community. Located in the Offices of Nexton building, 201 Sigma Drive, Suite 200, Summerville, SC 29485, Saint Leo University’s new Charleston Education Center will serve the tri-county area of Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley counties.

“Saint Leo is excited to move to this beautiful new location, which will offer an exceptional educational environment for our students,” said Candis Whitfield, assistant vice president for the Central Region. “This new 9,000-square-foot facility will provide more space for student resources, classes, and activities, better technology, and space to grow.”

The university closed its North Charleston center, which was in a school building, in 2019, in order to join the vibrant, growing Nexton community, Whitfield said. “Moving into a stand-alone location also will give Saint Leo the opportunity to build stronger business partnerships that will benefit our students and alumni,” she said. “This new center represents Saint Leo’s continued investment in our students in alignment with the university’s core values.”

Saint Leo University’s Charleston Education Center will have a dedicated computer lab, learning resource center, student lounge, and much more. It is within walking distance to Carolina Ale House, Starbucks, and several other new stores.
A grand opening is set for 1 – 3 p.m., Monday, March 30.

“The Saint Leo University team is excited about offering classes in this great location that will be convenient for our students and prospective students,” said Kai Campbell, director of the center.

The university offers a wide variety of associate, bachelor’s, and graduate degrees at its new location. Hallmarks of the Charleston Education Center are the small class sizes and personal attention students receive. Evening and weekend as well as online classes make it easy for busy professionals to further their education, Campbell said. Registration is taking place for the Spring 2 Semester, which begins March 9 and runs through May 3. The Summer 1 Semester runs May 4 through June 28.

Associate degrees are offered in liberal arts, business administration, and criminal justice.

Bachelor’s degrees include accounting, business administration-logistics; business administration-management; criminal justice; criminal justice-criminalistics; criminal justice-homeland security; human services; psychology-clinical/counseling; psychology-developmental; psychology-general; religion; and health care administration.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees are offered with specializations in project management; social media marketing; and supply chain global integration management.

In addition to the programs offered on site at the new Charleston/Summerville location, fully online degree programs also are offered through the Flexible Learning Experience (FLEX) program at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Saint Leo Charleston Education Center students are a diverse community of working parents; career-changers; first-generation college students; active-duty service-members; and military veterans. University-wide, about 86 percent of Saint Leo’s students are adult learners, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees online and at education centers throughout the United States.

Students at the Charleston Education Center receive a private-university education at a reasonable cost. While Saint Leo is a Catholic university, everyone is welcome. Established in 1889, the university maintains and emphasizes the core values it was founded upon.

Saint Leo officials are pleased to be part of the Newton community and look forward to continuing the university’s relationship with the Charleston area, Whitfield said.
