Book Distributor Winding Down Operations

Dorchester County, SC - October 29, 2025 - Dorchester County Library was recently informed that Baker &

Taylor, our primary book distributor, will be closing after nearly 200 years of service to libraries and bookstores. The company announced that, following the termination of a planned acquisition, it was unable to find a sustainable way forward and will begin winding down operations over the coming months.

While this closure affects libraries nationwide, Dorchester County Library had already established a purchasing relationship with Ingram Book Company last year in response to earlier Baker & Taylor fulfillment challenges. Because of this, we do not anticipate major service disruptions. Some delays in new materials and holds may occur temporarily, but ordering and cataloging will return to normal by mid-November.

Dorchester County Library remains committed to providing timely access to books and resources for our community.
