Recognition honors service to construction community at Excellence in Construction Awards Gala in Charlotte

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Patrick Savage, founder and principal of BuildWORKS Marketing, was named Volunteer of the Year by Associated Builders and Contractors of the Carolinas (ABC Carolinas) during the 2025 Excellence in Construction (EIC) Awards Gala held Nov. 6 at the Hilton Charlotte Uptown in Charlotte, N.C.

The annual EIC Awards Gala is ABC Carolinas’ signature celebration, bringing together contractors, design and engineering partners, and industry leaders from across North and South Carolina to recognize outstanding projects and contributions to the construction industry.

Savage, whose firm specializes in marketing strategy and creative services for construction and A/E/C companies across the Lowcountry and the Carolinas, was honored for his extensive volunteer work throughout the year, including the Lowcountry leadership council, media support and event promotions with ABC Carolinas.

“I didn’t volunteer for the award. I did it because I genuinely enjoy spending time with my peers in the A/E/C industry and helping create an impact,” Savage said. “To be recognized by people I respect so much is incredibly humbling. This year has been filled with so much success, and I’m beyond grateful for every moment.”

Over the past year, Savage has invested significant time supporting ABC Carolinas’ Lowcountry efforts, from chapter leadership and hands-on event support.

As Director of Membership responsible for the Lowcountry Council, ABC Carolinas’ Jonna Turner said Savage’s service has had a direct impact on members and council initiatives.

“Patrick has been an incredible asset to our Lowcountry Council and to ABC Carolinas as a whole. His energy, creativity and genuine commitment to serving our members have strengthened every initiative he’s touched. We are grateful for his leadership and the impact he continues to make across the region,” said Turner.

“Whether it’s the Build-a-Shed competition, the fishing rodeo, our annual golf tournament or a chili cook-off, it’s all just fun for me,” Savage said. “Giving my time and my talents back to this construction community is one of my favorite things to do every month.”

For Savage, focusing his volunteer efforts on the construction industry is directly tied to his core values at BuildWORKS and its work with commercial contractors, sitework firms and other A/E/C partners across the region.

“At BuildWORKS, ‘nurture’ is the first line in our core values. nurture our partners, our community and our peers,” he said. “When the construction community is moving in the same direction, we can make an even bigger impact on local nonprofits, workforce development and local causes across the Carolinas.”

The EIC Gala itself was also a highlight for Savage and his family.

“If you haven’t been to the Excellence in Construction Gala, you need to go—it’s one of the best nights of the year for our industry,” Savage said. “ABC Carolinas puts on an incredible evening. Getting to dress up, enjoy a black-tie event at the Hilton in Charlotte and share that moment with my wife and my peers made the night even more special. There’s a lot of great work that goes on in the Carolinas, and it was nice to celebrate it.”

ABC Carolinas supports the commercial construction industry throughout North and South Carolina, advancing the merit shop philosophy and helping members “develop people, win work and deliver that work safely, ethically and profitably” for the benefit of their communities.
