Brewing Change: Coffee & Conversations

A new quarterly series designed to stir conversation and ignite community-driven solutions

Trident United Way is excited to launch a new quarterly series designed to stir conversation and ignite community-driven solutions—Brewing Change: Coffee & Conversations. And what better place to begin than in Dorchester County, where connection and collaboration are already brewing daily at Coastal Coffee Roasters.

Join the very first event in this meaningful new series on Thursday, June 12, from 8:00–9:00 a.m. Brad and Rachael, the passionate owners behind Coastal Coffee Roasters, are opening their doors—and their hearts—as we create space for dialogue, understanding, and shared purpose.

Location: Coastal Coffee Roasters, 108 E 3rd N St, Summerville, SC

Date: Thursday, June 12

Time: 8:00 – 9:00 AM

Topic: ALICE & Financial Stability in the Tri-County

Each Brewing Change gathering will explore timely topics affecting our region, and we’re starting with one of the most urgent: financial stability for working families. Joey Current, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Trident United Way, will guide a conversation around ALICE—the population that is Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These are the hardworking individuals and families who, despite holding jobs, struggle to afford basic necessities like housing, childcare, healthcare, and transportation.

This is not your typical meeting—it’s a casual, come-as-you-are morning with fresh coffee, local pastries, and meaningful connection. There’s no cost to attend, just a shared commitment to learning and listening.

Whether you're a community leader, nonprofit partner, concerned citizen, or someone who's been personally impacted by these challenges, your voice matters. We invite you to come, bring a friend, and help shape solutions that uplift our neighbors and strengthen our community.
