Boutique Hotel in Downtown Summerville

In January, Mayor Ricky Waring and our Chamber President & CEO, Rita Berry, had a conversation about the possibility a boutique hotel in downtown Summerville. The discussion centered around the importance of transparency and the value of community engagement.

The Chamber Board of Directors agreed to host a series of public listening sessions, and other avenues for input, as we feel that we are the voice of business, and in this instance, our entire community. Our Chamber is committed to preserving small town charm while inspiring world class business. Providing this opportunity for community and business engagement was a perfect fit for the Chamber.

Gathering Public Input

Fast forward to March 2020 (pre-COVID), when we held two public listening sessions at the Public Works Art Center with the help of consultant David McNair. There were approximately 120 attendees at the in-person sessions and approximately 67 responses to our online survey, which was published on our website. The following is a summary of the data collected from those two sources.

More Details

A more comprehensive report was compiled of the data collected from both the public listening sessions and the online survey.  The online survey was published on the Chamber website starting in mid-March 2020.  To view the detailed and uncensored results of that survey, click below.
